GSX-R750
88-89 49 state
88-92 California (Ca used 36mm carbs for 4 years)

We are proud of this kit - The winner of multitudes of AMA Pro races and the overwhelming majority of amateur, WERA AND AMA Pro races in the United States in that time.

This kit was the kit that solved the cylinder head cracking, spark plug electrode breaking and sensitivity to crosswinds (at Willow Springs Raceway, turn 8, for instance)  that the other brand kits caused under race conditions. The reason? Low cost dealership level dynos were used to design the "other" carb kits.

This was the kit that many people who we didn't sponsor and weren't running "our" logos on the side of their bikes, actually ran.

Background "Nugget"!

The first symptom of a detonation problem with the dj kit were that the spark plug side electrodes would fall off during a race. The "99.9%" reason why that happens is because of the always harsh detonation hits that occurred at some time during engine running. At first (many years ago), we thought that...... Ummm...... Maybe they used bad spark plugs?
I didn't know - In hindsight, we only had that problem, maybe 2-3 times in 2 years (never using or even testing the dj kit in a racebike) - but, after hearing about the spark plug breakage on Jeff's and Chris' bike that (that we didn't build or tune) and the same on other bikes that the southern CA builders built - I always ran dual electrode plugs, so even if we caught whatever malady that they had, we'd still have a spare electrode........  (sometimes my mind goes in the right direction.....)

We never really had a power or reliability problem and our bikes were fully competitive......  and they didn't break....
:-)
Then the stories on bad cylinder heads and cylinder head cracking from the spark plug hole to a valve seat started appearing - Suzuki getting blamed for "bad cylinder head castings".

So...... after some time during the first year, it seemed to be a "given" by the "expert tuners" that:

Myth:
Suzuki made bad cylinder heads.
You couldn't buy spark plugs that would live in the mysterious "short stroke" 750's.
There was something "special and magical" about 88 gsxr750's - that they were unbelievably "sensitive" to float bowl vent tube routing and that the carb vents MUST be routed... behind the bike - on the left side of the bike - the right side of the bike - behind the fairing - away from rider's knees...... (take your pick and change it every race cause it didn't work to actually fix the problem).

Fact:
Most of the bikes that had problems ran dynojet kits.
What works best on a dynojet dyno does not work best in the real world. Simple fact - even with their latest greatest inertia dynos with eddy current brakes hung on them - tuning to fictitious "A/F Ratios -
Riders, when given a chance, usually prefer EC997 dyno tuning results -

The dynojet kits had "stepped" needles and at part throttle, the carbs would alternate between too rich (skinny part of step) and too lean (fat side of step). Ours were smoothly tapered and delivered a more even amount of fuel at every throttle position,

Most tuners would question a needle with distinct steps - but - if they ran it on a common dealership level dynojet dyno - it "worked".... so they didn't question it - a few of the luckier ones stopped using the dj kit and switched over (and most still ran their decals because they had a dynojet dyno....).

When asked "What do you about the spark plug and cylinder head cracking?"
I told them that I didn't have any problems (I'm sure that many didn't believe me) but that we didn't use a dj kit and if they knew so much that they refused to take that hint and didn't think that that was the problem,  I told them that retarding the ignition timing would help their problem.......

And the 750 stock engine class bikes in our northern Ca area that were quicker than ours the next year in 89?
We found out several years later that they had Cosworth 883cc high compression big bore kits in them.....

So much for head to head competition!!

"Long Boy"
Finger adjustable extended Fuel Screws

Frustrated with trying to find an "almost 90 degree"  screwdriver to fine adjust your fuel screws for best idle and cruise?
Use Factory Pro's new "finger adjustable" fuel screws to adjust fuel screws for best throttle response. Traveling to high altitude? It's easy to lean out the lowend temporarily.

Make your life easier!

Installation:
Remove old short stock fuel screws, old o-rings, old washers and old spring. The o-ring might be stuck in the carb, so, take a light and make sure it's really out if it didn't come out with the screw (or you can't find it after you took out the screw)
Use a small bent wire to pull it out if it doesn't drop out. Keep the old parts for "spares".

gsxr750 screw assembly comes with:
4 Long Boy fuel screws
 4 new o-rings
4 new washers
4 new springs

The extension of the laboratory for engines of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology was completed in about 1935. Its architect was Rudolf Otto Salvisberg (1882-1940). He had a successful career in Berlin but returned to Switzerland after the advent of the Nazis. His architectural style was somewhat similar to that of Erich Mendelsohn. The staircase of the laboratory is in normal use but well preserved.
