August 2014

Hi Marc!
Today I installed HDJ tubes (without sandpaper;)
It's amazing mod! Power delivery has become more smoother,
low end and mid range more aggressive. Now I can't hold my
Max when i open throttle wide on 1 and 2 gear)
Everything fine, but a bit lean on top end (<7k rpm), need
1 step larger main jet. Will fix it later.
You wrote best carb tuning guide! Thank you!
I will recommend HDJ to Russian Vmax community!
Best Regards,
Igor.

"HDJ" emulsion tubes / needle jets

HDJ style - High Dispersement Jet fuel delivery

Lowend too rich? Poor mileage? Blubbery when hot?

Factory Pro manufactures replacement needle jets (called emulsion tubes by some) to factory pro HDJ specs. The needle jet orifice wears oblong in as little as 20,000 miles and is particularly aggravated by "in town", low rpm operation. The result is excessive richness at low rpm that can be partially compensated for by lowering the fuel level. Inspect and replace tubes when required.

These are direct replacement jets, but include the Factory Pro "HDJ" High Dispersement Jet system to better atomize fuel and improve throttle response.

A direct replacement for worn, original items. Accepts standard Mikuni main jets and dynojet jets, our Factory Pro Carb Recal Kits.

Standard drop-in carb kit

Adds more low-end / midrange, if the proper main jet is selected, more topend power. Easy to install and tune - no slide drilling!

This is the preferred carb kit of most users on
V-Max.com and RM Sportmax some of the premier sources of V-Max information - and - some of the best mc user groups on the internet.

Upgrade note:

If you are upgrading your carbs from a dynojet or other kit that drilled the slides 4.57mm or .180", the original slide holes were:

3.42mm / .138" (thank you, Michael Tjon) or
"about .010" larger than 1/8th inch" or
"just a skosh more than an eighth" or
"a 1/8th inch is better for throttle control than drilled out slide damping holes...."

One repair method:
Fill hole carefully with 5 minute or longer epoxy and redrill with a NEW / SHARP drill bit - Be very light on the pressure or you will pop out the epoxy and have to start over again. Patience!!! :-)

Note:

Float Height
"as delivered" (with only one sample) dry float height: 28.5mm (with float valve closed, but not compressing the float valve spring)
I'm sure that was what the one sample bike was - and our Y11 jet kit was developed with 28.5mm. That doesn't mean that 28.5mm is the perfect setting for every VMax, but it's close.

The extension of the laboratory for engines of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology was completed in about 1935. Its architect was Rudolf Otto Salvisberg (1882-1940). He had a successful career in Berlin but returned to Switzerland after the advent of the Nazis. His architectural style was somewhat similar to that of Erich Mendelsohn. The staircase of the laboratory is in normal use but well preserved.
