The FZR400, in 2012, in the USA, is still the best 400cc Production or Supersport bike available.
The USA hadn't received the updated 400, even as of 2012.

To spiff up an older 400, the usual route is
emulsion tubes (for excessive low rpm richness)
Carb kit (to allow proper tuning)
Ignition Advance (to bring back that "new bike" crispness)
Shift Kit (to make the 400 shift as good as, or better than an new bike)

All in all, adding the above (properly installed) will usually get you a bike that runs far better than a new bike did.

Frustrated with trying to find an "almost 90 degree"  screwdriver to fine adjust your fuel screws for best idle and cruise?
Use Factory Pro's new "finger adjustable" fuel screws to adjust fuel screws for best throttle response. Traveling to high altitude? It's easy to lean out the lowend temporarily.

Make your life easier!

Remove old short stock fuel screws, old o-rings, old washers and old spring. The o-ring might be stuck in the carb, so, take a light and make sure it's really out if it didn't come out with the screw (or you can't find it after you took out the screw)
Use a small bent wire to pull it out if it doesn't drop out. Keep the old parts for "spares".

Each screw assembly comes with:
4 Long Boy fuel screws 
 4 new o-rings
4 new washers
4 new springs

SPECIAL NOTES for professional tuners concerning modified engine fzr400's:
Since a high percentage of fzr400's are racebikes or trackday bikes, with different pistons, porting and cams, the desired stack length may be different from what the stock engined 400 wants.
For modified bikes, please send a dyno chart, preferably under full load, and I'll try to custom fit stack lengths for you.
Also, please send the length of the stacks you are using, measured from the inside airbox base to the top of the stacks.
And maybe a digital picture of the stock stacks, in the airbox, too.
Factory Pro's patented "quickchange" stacks are potentially available in lengths as short as about 10mm to 80mm, in 5 and 10mm steps

(with float valve shut but not compressing the float valve spring)
approximate mm below the horizontal index mark on the carb bowls.
14mm float height (leaner)  12.1 mm fuel level
13mm float height  11 mm fuel level
12mm float height 9.9mm fuel level
11mm float height 8.8 mm fuel level
10mm float height 7.7mm fuel level
9mm float height 6.6mm  fuel level
8mm float height (richer) 5.5mm fuel level
Use "float height" when adjusting fuel level for tuning purposes - it's much quicker than trying to set the "fuel level" to a value, seeing if that's what your bike wants, then setting the "fuel level" to another value and retesting performance.
"Fuel level" is more for determining if the "floats" are set  to some realistic number and finding stuck float valves and leaking, sunk floats.
But not really time effective for tuning.

Adds more low-end / midrange, if the proper main jet is selected, more top-end power. Easy to install and tune - no slide drilling!
Note: If you are looking for more hp, do not buy a standard, drop-in K&N air filter. This is the only K&N application that does not work to improve power - even if jetting is matched to filter. But it's a good filter.

Requires removal of stock airbox and running 4 K&N or equivalent individual air filters. Can't use the above velocity stacks with K&N or BMC. It would be possible (though I haven't done it) to use a universal Unifilter.

Trans Detent Arm Kit

Make shifting MUCH quicker and virtually eliminate missed shifts. This is exactly the same kit that Yamaha Racing has used. Huge shift action improvement.

The kit requires the removal of a 27mm clutch nut - so, you'll need a:
Deep 27mm socket and an Air or electric impact wrench
If you insist on not having an impact wrench, you'll need / appreciate.......
A friend to hold the rear brake on while you loosen the 27mm nut while the bike is in 3rd (ish) gear.....

Every time I say - "I'm going to discontinue that kit." You guys, start calling and buying them again! OK- OK!! One more year!  2018!!!

Increase mileage slightly
decrease rolling resistance noticeably
coast farther
improve top speed a bit
and acceleration a little

Tough steel races and almost  friction free ceramic balls.

Bearings have rubber seals that are easy to remove if desired.


Removed 3.5 lb. alternator rotor (NO charging system) and replaces it with a total loss 8oz. trigger rotor, similar to Yamaha Race Kit unit. Not for street use.

The extension of the laboratory for engines of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology was completed in about 1935. Its architect was Rudolf Otto Salvisberg (1882-1940). He had a successful career in Berlin but returned to Switzerland after the advent of the Nazis. His architectural style was somewhat similar to that of Erich Mendelsohn. The staircase of the laboratory is in normal use but well preserved.
